Inviting Applicants For 2010 Annual College Scholarship

For the Sons or Daughters of Pipefitter Members of the Plumbers' & Pipefitters Local Union No. 562

Two Scholarships each $2,000 for a Year and Annually, Renewable up to 3 Undergraduate Academic Years

RULES

  1. Eligible Applicants are those attending high school and about to complete their senior year, and who are sons or daughters of an active Pipefitter member in good standing of the Plumbers' & Pipefitters' Local Union No. 562 and employed by a MCA Industry Benefit Fund Contributing Contractor in good standing.
  2. Applicants must rank in the upper one-half of their graduating class to be eligible to apply.
  3. Selection is competitive and will be based on: (a) Academic standing of the student during four years in high school (b) College entrance examination scores (c) Extracurricular activities and leadership (d) Character reference and other pertinent factors
  4. Awardees may attend any accredited college or university of his/her choice in United States, and may choose any course of study, but must be enrolled in a full time schedule at college or university of attendance, and maintain a full minimum 12 credit hour schedule.
  5. Scholarship will be awarded for one year only. At the completion of an academic year, a recipient may apply for the renewal of a scholarship for an additional one-year period. A copy of the grade report from the previous semester and college registration receipt for the next semester must be submitted to the scholarship committee c/o the MCA office. These documents must be sent to the MCA office in order to receive your next semester's check. Scholarship may be renewed for three consecutive under-graduates years following the academic year for which it was originally awarded, or for any shorter period necessary to attain an under-graduate degree. Scholarships are not applicable toward post-graduate courses. Whether or not a scholarship shall be renewed will be determined by the scholarship committee on the basis of applicants scholastic record of maintaining no less than a 3.0 grade point average and continuation of parent's status as defined in Rule 1.
  6. The award will be made payable to the selected applicant and the scholarship check will be sent to their home for the applicant to remit it to the college or university of his/her choice, after having been accepted by the college for admission. One half of the scholarship will be available each semester and will apply to educational expenses first. Any scholarship winner who drops out of college for any reason will not be eligible to resume the scholarship award.
  7. Applicants shall submit a complete application within specified deadlines to receive consideration for scholarship and must include a transcript of high school grades covering seven full semesters (six semesters accepted if applicant is in top one-third of his/her class).
  8. A one-page handwritten statement covering his/her aims and ambitions are to be submitted with the student's application form.
  9. Applications submitted on forms provided by the Mechanical Contractors Association of Eastern Missouri. A written request from the student giving the parent's name and stating that the latter is an active Pipefitter Member, in good standing of the Plumbers' & Pipefitters' Local Union No. 562 and employed by a MCA Industry Benefit Fund Contributing Contractor in good standing.
  10. In judging scholarship applications, the Awards Committee shall select alternates. Such alternates shall only be eligible in the first year for scholarship in the event that one or more of the applicants initially slected should for any reason be unable to accept the award.
